Counselling Services

We all encounter challenging situations at different times in our lives. Counselling can provide a supporting environment that allows you to explore changes you want to make in your life and provide solutions to help you get there.

Using approaches such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), your therapist will work with you to develop coping skills that will help you deal with difficult situations.

Individual Counselling

  • You may find yourself struggling with anxiety and stress, leading you to feel like you can’t stop your thoughts from racing. Individual counselling sessions will focus on gaining skills in the areas of emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and social effectiveness, helping you to develop the skills necessary to deal with the difficult thoughts and situations that are causing feelings of distress.

Relationship Counselling

  • When it seems like your relationship isn’t working, you may be left feeling sad, hurt, angry, disconnected, and completely alone.  Maybe something has happened and what used to bring you closeness now brings feelings of insecurity and distance. Maybe the relationship has slowly changed over time and you have pulled further and further apart.  Maybe you are having feelings of hopelessness and wonder if the relationship is worth continuing.  What has become certain for you is that no matter why or how you got to this point, you know that changes are needed.

Working with a therapist may help couples end the pain of relationship distress and find new ways to create secure, happy bonds with one another. Your therapist will support you and your partner, helping you to identify what may be causing the disconnection and learn to communicate so you can turn to each other for comfort, healing, and forgiveness.

Family Counselling

  • Parenting can be difficult and family relationships are complex.  As parents, we are doing the best we can to ensure our children are happy, healthy and flourishing. However, sometimes we need guidance, support, or reassurance to get to the relationship we want. During sessions, the therapist can help guide and support open communication with the goal of strengthening the family system.

Walk & Talk Therapy

  • Walk & Talk Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that incorporates walking outdoors while talking with a trained Walk & Talk Therapist.  Research tells us that exposure to natural environments can support in prevention, treatment & rehabilitation of mental health issues.

According to research, spending time in nature helps us relax and think more clearly and is also linked to less anxiety, fewer depression symptoms, and lower stress levels. Natural environments encourage us to use our senses to experience our surroundings. We become more aware of calming sounds like water flowing or birds chirping which provides a welcome relief from everyday stressors.

    • Walk & Talk sessions begin & end at The Wellness Clinic to allow sign in & out

    • Sessions are 50mins in total, the client sets the pace of the walk

    • The path is stroller friendly so babies are very welcome

    • If conditions are unfavourable you will be given the option of an indoor or virtual session

Meditation

  • Mediation improves communication between parents about child-related issues and other conflicts of dispute and supports parents and children through the complex emotions experienced during and after divorce. Unlike therapy, mediation acts as a guide, with the main goal being conflict resolution.

Mediation is less costly on both a financial and emotional basis and an effort is made to remain focused on current issues and managing emotions in a healthy and productive way.

Working with a therapist may help couples end the pain of relationship distress and find new ways to create secure, happy bonds with one another. Your therapist will support you and your partner, helping you to identify what may be causing the disconnection and learn to communicate so you can turn to each other for comfort, healing, and forgiveness.

Parent Coaching

  • Parent coaching provides education about the potential impact of separation and/or divorce, how to communicate with children and develop age-appropriate strategies to support children through transitions.

    PARENTING PLANS

A parenting plan worked out between parents, is a valuable reference to assist with dealings between parents and help everyone involved to know what is expected of them.

Each parenting plan is unique and will set practical decisions about children’s care in areas such as communication and dealing with differences, living arrangements, money, education, health care and well-being.

Perinatal Mental Health

  • Perinatal mental health refers to mental health ‘all around’ birth. From conceiving, throughout the pregnancy as well as the first year following birth. What you go through during pregnancy, postpartum and the early years of parenting is like no other stage in life. It’s a time of big changes, physically, emotionally and as a family structure. It can be both joyous and extremely challenging all at once.

The term Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder (PMAD) is used to describe distressing feelings that can occur throughout the perinatal time frame.  Feelings can range from mild to severe. These feelings may include but are not limited to, increased anger, irritability, anxiety, difficulty sleeping & eating as well as having a hard time bonding with your baby. Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) include prenatal & postnatal depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar and psychosis.

The mental health and well-being of an expectant or new mother affects not only the mothers overall emotional well-being but can also impact her unborn, newborn, developing children, partner, wider family group and community. However, Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders are much more common than you might think, and support is available.

  • Again, I really appreciate that women have somewhere to go that deals specifically with women's health. This has been needed for a long time. I also appreciate that it is "one stop shopping" - you have everyone under one roof. My care providers are able to collaborate if that's what I need. More than anything, it isn't just prescribe a pill and send you on your way. I like that.
